Remembering Francesco Mule

Francesco Mule was born on December 3, 1926 in Rome, Italy. He was the son of Giuseppe Mule [1885-1951], a composer and director of the Academy of Santa Cecilia. Francesco attended the Academy of Dramatic Arts, and soon began to tread the boards with “Trial of Jesus” (1956), alongside Renzo Ricci and Elsa Merlini. In the play “Senza Reter” it was noted Mule has a remarkable talent for comedy. He then worked in a series of brilliant comedies such as “Non ti conosco più”, “Cara delinquente e Dobbiamo uccidere Tony”. With Renato Rascel he acted in an unusual show brilliant directed by Franco Zeffirelli in 1969 called, “Venti zecchini d’oro”. Although he was active on the big screen, he gained great public success with his television appearances, especially with “Carousel” and commercials for Peroni beer, which Mulè appeared in from 1968 to 1973, while wearing bulky clothes as accountant John Smith , lost in the desert, thirsty and in the throes of a delusional mirage he spots blond, Solvi Stubing , who tells him the inevitable pity, and famous tail ad: "Call me Peroni, I'll be your beer". Mulè appeared in only one Euro-western “Rick and John, Conquerors of the West” (1967) as Major Jefferson. Francesco passed away on November 4, 1984 in Rome. Today we remember Francesco Mulè on what would have been his 85th birthday.
